Diet

The main source of food for the arctic fox is the lemming. Only about 10 percent of its diet consists of birds, eggs, and other food. It may also steal the kills of wolves. The hunting range of the arctic fox is from 2 to 5 square kilometers, but may be much larger when lemming populations are low. In areas where lemmings are less prominent, the arctic fox's diet consists of other small mammals such as ground squirrels and voles. In summer, birds and eggs are popular meals.
